Bellring Games and publisher Skystone Games have officially launched the Mistfall Hunter open beta across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The open beta marks the title's first hands-on console availability, expanding testing to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside PC. The beta window runs until June 22 at 3:00 AM PT, giving players a week to explore the dark fantasy extraction ARPG before its July 29, 2026 launch date confirmed by Bellring Games and Skystone Games.

Mistfall Hunter is confirmed for Xbox Game Pass Day One, releasing on July 29. Xbox players can download the open beta directly from the Microsoft Store at no cost.

What Is Mistfall Hunter?

Mistfall Hunter is a third-person PvPvE extraction ARPG blending bleak dark fantasy aesthetics with intense, visceral action. Players take the role of a Gyldhunter, diving into a cursed realm consumed by the Gyldenmist to loot ruins, fight monsters, and extract before death strips them of everything they've gathered. The open beta supports full cross-play functionality, allowing players to experience the game's high-stakes extraction mechanics either solo or in three-player cooperative squads.

Players can choose from six distinct classes, each offering unique abilities and weapon stances. The combat system lets Gyldhunters swap weapons mid-battle to adapt to whatever enemies they face, and the game promises no pay-to-win mechanics - victory is decided purely by skill and preparation.

New Class: Withered Knight

This beta brings several major additions, including the newly playable Withered Knight class and the new Hallowgrave map. The Withered Knight joins an existing roster that includes the Mercenary, Sorcerer, Blackarrow, Shadowstrix, and Seer. Built around a Greatsword, the class uses immense reach and formidable parry techniques to shatter enemy defenses and anchor squads against the darkness - a calculated frontline fighter that rewards patience over aggression.

The Withered Knight slots cleanly into three-player team compositions as a tempo-setter and crowd-control specialist.

New Map: Hallowgrave

The beta also introduces Hallowgrave, a highly vertical map set within a bleached and sacred forest. The environment features the Divine Anchor - a pale relic that draws corrupted enemies to its lingering power - and the coastal highlands of Hastine's Fall, where a giant's corpse still radiates with divine strength. The map's most demanding zone is the Witchery Woods, where players must survive ghostly secrets before confronting a false god boss.

The beta also delivers the first public look at Mist Lord boss Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane.

Other Major Beta Updates

Beyond the new class and map, the beta includes a redesigned stamina system for smoother, more fluid combat encounters, significant class balance passes across the existing five classes, new legendary-tier gear, and expanded gem and enemy systems.

Update Details
New Class Withered Knight (Greatsword)
New Map Hallowgrave (vertical forest)
New Boss Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane
Stamina Full system overhaul
Gear Legendary tier added for all classes

Beta Cosmetics and Golden Ciphers

Progress earned during the open beta will be wiped at close - this is a data-wipe test. However, players who participate earn exclusive beta cosmetics tied to their account, redeemable when the game officially launches. There is also a Golden Cipher event running during the open beta, where players can collect Golden Ciphers by opening chests and defeating monsters and turn them in for rewards at launch. One of the Golden Ciphers might turn out to be a Steam key for the full game.

Strong Early Numbers

The open beta is doing impressive numbers on Steam, with concurrent players crossing 10,000 for Steam alone - and that figure doesn't account for the console side of the test running simultaneously. Despite these solid numbers, some players have been questioning where the broader hype is, speculating that audiences may be experiencing extraction genre fatigue. Whether or not that sentiment sticks, the opening week figures represent a meaningful vote of confidence for the first open beta for a game first seen back in October 2024.
